FAQ

We are quite skeptical about online tutoring and doubt about its quality compared to an in-person tutor, what is your opinion about it?

I was quite skeptical too and turned down a few requests before getting started, in fact I was afraid about the quality of the lessons and quite hesitant. I then got to know the technology behind this type of tutoring and that turned me into an online tutoring enthusiast. I am now confident that I can deliver high-quality lessons online. If skeptical why don’t you just book a trial lesson to see if this type of tutoring is for you? After discovering the many advantages of online tutoring many people regret not having tried it earlier. You may also want to take a look at the testimonials' page, most of the students had no previous experience with online tutoring.

What are the advantages of online vs in-person tutoring?

Online tutoring has several advantages over a tutor coming to your home, here are a few of them:

-The lessons are more time-effective and therefore cheaper; an online session starts almost immediately after the tutor calls. An in-person session of, say a 60-minute lesson, may mean in reality a 45-minute of real teaching(I know that very well from experience, I would often have a tea and a chat at the student's place before the lessons started, that extra time was regularly included in the fee).

-Besides regular lessons, you can occasionally have very short lessons just to clarify a few concepts or to solve an exercise. That's quite practical and important in particular just before an exam. As an in-person tutor I would have never bothered to go to a student's home for a 15-minute lesson, it would not have been worth my time.

-Neither the tutor nor the student spend time and money traveling.

-Online tutoring is safer since you don't have a stranger coming to your place.

-Students very often do better with an online tutor since they are learning in the privacy of their home; having the tutor on the screen somehow makes them feel more comfortable than with an in-person tutor.

My son/daughter needs a tutor who sits down with him/her, online tutoring is not for us

There are several misconceptions around online tutoring. Besides, there are several types of online tutoring and that adds to the confusion. I will be happy to spend a full hour of my time to show you how my tutoring works; based on my experience with other students and parents, chances are you won't be disappointed. If for some reason you don't feel comfortable with it, you can stop after the trial at no extra cost. If, together with a trial lesson, you are interested in a free consultation, just specify it in the email, I will be pleased to offer it to you. Since my time is limited I can't offer you both for free.

We wouldn’t mind giving it a try but we are afraid of online payment methods.

Have you ever purchased a book or other item on Amazon or Ebay? Paying an online tutor is safer than that since you don’t need to share any bank or credit card details; you can simply make a local bank transfer to my Wise account or use Paypal.

Is the consultation really free?

Yes, we can have a friendly chat about your tutoring needs and I can show you how the teaching environment works with some real teaching, that can be done before the trial lesson at no additional cost, there is no obligation to continue from your side.

Can we really pay you after the lesson?

Yes, if as a client, you prove to be reliable, no problem with me as long as you don’t delay the payment too much. This way we will both be safe.

Do you offer any other service besides one-on-one lessons?

Yes, I do. If you only need help with a few exercises or concepts I can provide help via email and chat, also real-time. This type or tutoring usually works pretty well and can also be done in addition to lessons at little or no extra cost. Besides one-on-one lessons, I also tutor small groups. This usually works very well with evenly matched students.
