I am just getting started with online tutoring and I am considering using PPC (pay-per-click) ads

Updated: Mar 6, 2022

I am just getting started with online tutoring and I am considering using PPC (pay-per-click) ads to get students from other countries. Would it be a good approach?

Using PPC ads is usually a very bad choice for tutors even more so if you are inexperienced and just getting started. In some specific cases PPC may work to some extent but mostly for tutors working locally or if you are working on specific niche subject and if you are somewhat experienced with paid advertising techniques. Note that if you are working locally there are usually much more effective strategies to get students than using PPC advertising. In general, organic growth, when you gradually increase traffic to your platforms by adding and improving your content, is a better choice when compared to trying to grow your business with paid advertising, especially in the early stages of a business growth.

When on social media you may approached by some so-called paid-ads gurus; while some may be somewhat legit, some may not and hardly any of them usually have experience working with tutoring businesses. They usually claim that their paid advertising strategies can do wonders to help your business grow but give you no guarantee. As the old saying goes, if something is too good to be true, it usually is. If you are really considering paid ads as a business growth strategy, make sure you do your homework first, among the other things by asking experienced tutors how using paid ads has worked out for them.
