When compared to traditional tuition, tutoring online makes me more exhausted

Updated: Mar 6, 2022

When compared to traditional tutoring which I have provided for years in the past, tutoring online makes me more exhausted, is that normal and what can I do about it?

Many or rather the vast majority of tutors usually agree that tutoring online is more tiring and draining than tutoring in-person, so you are definitely not alone in this. What usually varies is typically the amount of hours a tutor can teach before feeling completely drained. Several factors affect how tired you feel after a few hours of tutoring, below are some tips (not an exhaustive list).

-Try taking short, refreshing breaks after each lesson. -Get some more ergonomic furniture you can use for tutoring. -Adjust the screen properties such as brightness and contrast. -Make sure you have your teaching material within reach before the lesson start, that will make the lesson less stressful for the teacher. -If necessary put a cap on the maximum number of hours you can teach in a day. -Try to limit the use of the PC or other electronic devices when you are not tutoring. -Make sure to have a back-up of the technology you are using, in particular a backup software for your audio or video calls as well as a backup of the virtual board. A technology glitch or the idea of having one could make you feel stressed out, contributing to the tiredness, having a backup will help avoiding that.
